Disaster Preparedness For Your Business: Getting back to business after a disaster depends on preparedness planning done today. Small business owners invest a tremendous amount of time, money and resources to make their ventures successful, and yet, while the importance of emergency planning may seem self-evident, it may get put on the back-burner in the face of more immediate concerns.
For small business owners, being prepared can mean staying in business following a disaster. An estimated 25 percent of businesses do not reopen following a major disaster, according to the Institute for Business and Home Safety.

| 7/27/2007 | Examined computer - it would not boot in normal mode, safe mode, or with last known good configuration. Removed hard drive and connected to other system. Attempted to back up files first as per customer request. Backup failed due to file corruption. Repaired hard drive with software. Backed up files to 2 DVDs. Tested DVDs to make sure data was reliable. Mounted hard drive back in to laptop. Because of the repair, I was then able to go into safe mode and remove offending driver - a touch pad driver. Now it boots ok, but correct mouse driver still needs installed by customer. | SUCCESS |
| 7/26/2007 | Diagnose bad hard drive. Order replacement 60 GB drive. Install new drive. Install Windows XP (via system restore CDs). Data recovery was attempted on the bad drive using several methods but nothing was successful. The drive would not even be recognized. I can refer you to a data recovery service to have the drive recovered in a "clean room". This is very expensive. It would probably cost between $500 and $2000 dollars. Customer decided to not pay for the clean room. |
